I've just recently discovered Salon Effects and I think they're wonderful. No need to wait for them to dry, and they last through all sorts of abuse.

One box has two packs of eight strips. I've discovered that cutting the strips can make one box go a long way, especially with short nails. With only one box, I was able to cover not only my ten fingernails, but also my daughter's ten fingernails *and* all her toenails.

The Glitz Bitz and Blue Ice patterns really sparkle. Up close, they look like a thick coat of glitter nail polish. I can't say they're my favorite design, but the price couldn't be beat.

I could go ten days before the nails start to look ratty from growth and chipping. If I actually took good care of them, maybe put a topcoat on, I'm sure I could go a little longer. By day 13, I was ready to take it off and apply a new design. Removal is as simple as a cotton ball soaked with nail polish remover.

I recommend Salon Effects for anyone who doesn't want to worry about wet polish and delicate nails. That would be me.

These are easy to use and apply. As with other sparkle polishes they can tear your nails up upon removal. They stay on forever and I got compliments daily!!

First of all, I must say that I've used other Sally Hansen salon effects before and have been VERY pleased with the results. Nevertheless -for these particular strips (I'm not sure if it's the design or is the product is old or what), when you go to peel off the top clear part, the silver bit that is supposed to help you remove the bottom peal away strip comes apart from the strip -there is then no way to remove the clear peel and therefore no way to properly apply the nail. I had to throw the whole thing away. DO NOT BUY!

I really like the Sally Hansen polish strips. Application is a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, they go on quickly. Cheaper than going to the salon; faster and neater than painting your own nails. The best part is no drying time. However, I would highly suggest using a clear top coat to protect them and help them last longer. Mine usually last at least a week with a top coat.

The nail paint did not stick more than 2 days. It would come off in one piece...it didnt chip in peices. Only half of the 10 nails weren't sticky.

Let me just say, I work at the store that sells these and I was very excited to try it as I love to do my nails. I love Sally Hansen nail strips, I use them all the time. When the GEL strips came out with this little LED lamp, I was intrigued. Let me also point out, the store I work at sells this item for quite a bit less than what I see here on Amazon. I also need to add that the gel refills for this kit sell for five dollars more than the regular Sally Hansen polish strips. Onto the actual review:

The kit comes with the mini LED lamp, 16 gel polish strips (more on this later), a bottle of the gel top coat and the nail cleanser pads. If you have ever used polish strips, you apply these in the same way you normally would. Apply them all to your fingers then begin with the gel polish. Just apply the top coat to one finger and put it under the lamp. The lamp is easy to use, just plug it in and when you are ready, put 1 finger under the light and press the button. It stays on 30 seconds, turns off when the 30 seconds are up. Do this for each finger. After the light, the gel polish is dry, though if you touch it you will feel a stickiness. Wipe your nail with the cleanser pads to remove the stickiness and you are done. It is very easy to use and comes out looking very pretty. I did notice the strips for this kit are thicker than are the non-"gel" strips Sally Hansen makes. I did not like this, and sure enough, being too thick they start to come up at the edges after a couple days. In fact, the kit has a very involved process of soaking your nails in remover to get them off. All I had to do was get my fingernail under the raised edges and peel each off in one go. Very odd. Also, I had major chips after the first day of normal wear. Over all, the process was easy as pie, but I was still unhappy with the overall results.

This got me thinking, I wonder if I can use the regular Sally Hansen nail strips with this LED lamp, which I already love and are five dollars cheaper than these "gel" strips. Both strips seem identical except how I mentioned the gel strips were thicker. I had plenty of the normal strips laying about, so I tried it.

I did the exact same process with the lamp. There is enough gel polish in the started kit to use more than once (which is weird b/c if you buy the refill pack which is good for 1 use [again, more on this later] there is a whole new bottle of the gel polish). To get rid of that stickiness that I mentioned I just wiped each finger with a wet wipe. You can also use an alcohol pad if you have them b/c that's all the nail cleanser pads are, essentially. It looked great and the process was just as easy. I am on day 4 of this manicure and NO CHIPS and only slight wear at the tips. I have gotten multiple compliments at work. My overall impression? This kit is a glorified TOP COAT! And I really like it. :)

I think you can use whatever you like and just treat it like a gel top coat kit. Don't buy the more expensive refill kits. Use the regular strips. My next experiment? Regular nail polish.

Onto my little secret about these strip kits. Each kit comes with 16 strips, and with 10 fingers, that is a 1 time use. With as awesome as these little strips are, a 1 time use per kit is pretty expensive. I keep my nails short. The strips are pretty long. When I apply the first strip, I file it off, peel off the silver tab from the top part, TURN IT AROUND and apply the other side of the same strip to the same nail on the opposite hand. If that makes sense, you can use HALF the strips this way, and get two uses out of each refill kit. :) Good luck! I hope you all give this kit a try!

I tried Sally Hansen Insta-gel strips for the first time, and I followed the directions explicitly. The process was easy enough, and they do dry instantly after using the UV light, which is nice. However, less than 24 hours later two of my nails have already chipped. For this reason, this system is not worth the $14 it costs for the strips each time you want to do your nails. For that price you might as well go to the salon and get a manicure done. I also do not like that you basically have to soak your fingernails in acetone nail polish remover to take the polish off, which I understand is true of all gel polishes, but its just not what I feel like doing since I just did my nails last night. I do not recommend this and I will not be purchasing again.

I'm a big fan of the standard Sally Hansen Salon Effects strips. I use them all the time and routinely get 10 days of wear from a set. So, I expected great things from this product.

I was very, very wrong. The strips included don't adhere nearly as well as the standard ones. And they sure don't wear even 1/10th as well.

I followed the directions to the letter. Within hours, 2 nails had chips--and all I did was sit on the sofa and read. Within 1 day, the strips peeled completely off 3 nails while I was washing my hands.

What an utter waste of time and money. If Amazon had allowed, I'd have given this product 0 stars.

I just purchased this kit in a retail store today. It was on clearance for $13.99, and I thought I would give it a try. I prepared my nails per the directions, followed the application directions, and they seemed to set beautifully. Except that now, three hours later, they are peeling off and chipping all over the place. I haven't done much since I put this stuff on (I washed my hands once, ran the vacuum in one room, and did some typing). I am extremely disappointed. If this won't hold up to light work, it surely won't hold up under my normal working conditions. This was a perfect waste of money and time. The stickers were terribly frustrating to apply, and I thought, perhaps, proper gel polish might work better. I doubt I'll give this a second try.

Overall impression: Lasts slightly longer than a regular mani, but nothing like a real gel one.

Pros: Easy to do, especially if you aren't good with clean lines. Looks nice while it lasts. Easier to remove than a real gel manicure. Not messy. Price. If your nails aren't too long, you can actually use 1 strip on two nails.

Cons: LED has a short and doesn't stay on. Peels slightly about a week in. CAN chip, even with a few top coats.

I think this is an instance of "You get what you pay for". I would have given them 3 stars (maybe even 4), but the lamp doesn't stay on consistently. This is a real problem since you can only put one finger in at a time. You can fix the peeling by filing it a bit and applying another clear coat. However, the chipping (which isn't terribly frequent) just is what it is.

Convenient, effective and a lot of strips! I don't use anything else. These are not messy at all.

I use the big ones for my face too, just use scissors to cut the right shape. Make sure you leave an "edge" to grab hold of without having to get your hands sticky. Once you place it on, rub it 2-3 times, no more, and then pull against the grain. If you rub more than 3 times, the honey can get soft.

Update:

Years later I still use this stuff! I read some other reviews on this product. You really have to pull fast enough and make sure you're pulling the right direction. That is key. I've used these on my really thick pubic hairs (yes TMI, I know) as well as fine facial hair and it works. If you're wondering if you're pulling the right direction: your fingers should be closest to the end of the hair and farthest from the root. When you pull you should NOT pull UP (perpendicular to your skin) you have to pull in a direction that is PARALLEL to your skin. And pull very quickly.

My sister recommended this product awhile back and I just didn't believe it could work. Boy was I wrong. The strips (clear, plastic strips)are prewaxed and stuck together so all you have to do is warm the strip against your skin (I put the wax strip against my stomach and place my hand over it) and tear them apart, then place the strip where you want hair removed, yank it off (against the way the hair grows) and viola the hair is gone. You just throw away the used strip once you are done with it. There is no mess and no fuss. It does get most of the hairs you want removed too. I have used this for a year now and absolutely love it and highly recommend it. You can get this at Ulta which is where I get mine.

Bought this on a whim to try waxing my legs (something which I'd never done before at home OR at a salon). It's been a week and my legs are still perfectly smooth, compared to the stubbled nightmare they usually are a week after shaving.

Pros

No microwaving means that it was super easy and not very messy

Only a handful of stray hair didn't get grabbed, probably because they were to short

Actually not that painful, which I was worried about since I have sensitive skin

Was able to use each strip 2 or 3 times, and cut them for better placing in some spots

Cons

Some wax residue, but it was easily cleaned up with a bit of baby oil and a couple cotton balls

Had to go over a few areas multiple times, but that's not entirely the wax's fault--some of the hair grows in odd directions

Overall, I'm really happy with this product and will definitely purchase again when my first 3 boxes run out! ;-)

These do not pull out all the hairs on the leg, make sure you don't leave the strips on too long, or not long enough. It depends on the temperature. You can also reuse them, especially if you aren't too hairy like me. They also work fantastic on the armpits, and I'm noticing my hair regrowth is slowing down. Place the strips in the direction of the hair growth and pull out against the hair growth. You may have to try multiple times as my hair growth isn't the same direction. Tried on bikini line, works OK I recommend the Brazilian hot wax for that.

I bought the Bikini, Body & Legs honey wax strips at Ulta. There are 14 double sided strips, giving you a total of 28 strips. It is a bit painful when you rip them off but the pain quickly subsides. I used the strips only on by upper legs (above the knee); I did it in 4 days because it was sticky, a bit painful and time consuming. After using all 28 strips my upper legs still have some hair on it. The strips were not consistent in taking alot of hair off, sometimes they would pull alot other times barely any hair would come off, I would try to reuse the strips again in another spot but it would only take a couple hairs if any off. I followed the directions, warming them between my hands for a few seconds, smooth on in the direction of hair growth and tear off in opposite direction; I even went over some areas in different directions because not all the hair grew in one direction. Never got the result I had hoped for... smooth legs. This product I believe would work well if you were doing an upper lip or under the arms but not a large area. I had let my hair growth on the leg to 1/2 an inch and even experimented on my lower leg with one strip which was at 1/4 inch of hair growth but the results were no better. Gave it 3 stars because it sort of worked but not the best results, and because you may be happy if you used it in a small area but you would probably need a couple applications over the same spot. Also some of the stips would get sticky on my legs, did not wash off with soap and water, I found that after an hour or two it would just disappear on it's own, don't do this just before you intend to go out on for a fancy occassion you will not be happy, it needs sometime to work with and unstick itself so it does not stick to your clothes.

This color is a bit lighter than it looks in the stock photo. It's more of a peacock blue, or a medium ocean blue. Not as dark or denim colored as the photo appears. The first coat goes on quite sheer, so I've found it takes about 3 coats to get the best color. It's a great summer color for toenails, giving them a fun and bright medium blue color. With a top clear coat, the polish lasts a long time. On toenails it seems to never chip and lasts forever. On fingernails I can get a solid 4-5 days without any chipping, as long as I've applied a clear top coat. It's a beautiful color and one of my favorites!

I only gave it 5 stars because the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure product is great! I do not care for the color. But that is not the product's fault. Even when you purchase in the store you cannot tell what it will look like until you buy it and use it. Many of them look the same in the bottle. I didn't find the color I wanted in the colors available, so was looking for something close.

I purchased this brand and color several years ago. It was in a 'sale' basket because the store was discontinuing the item. Of course, I fell in love with it. I have looked for some time now and, WoW, I found it on Amazon! This product lives up to its claims of making your teeth look brighter (the pigment in the gloss counter-balances a less than perfectly white), and there is actually a slight hint of mint or peppermint in the formula to give the illusion of 'fresh' breath.

The gloss has a degree of sheerness that gives it a light feel rather than a heavy lipstick feel. I purchased both the Twinkling and the Brilliant shades.

It is not a long lasting color so it does need freshening up periodically throughout the day but it totally rocks the 'first impression' look when you arrive. (again, applying periodically throughout the day).
